11:12
Dishevelled desks and hairs.
Crumbled pages and thoughts.
Blackened erasers and eyes.
Wincing the Night Away whispers
some stifled headphone
connected to some dying iPod
buried somewhere in my
denim mountain on the floor.
"Eviscerate your fragile frame
and spill it out on the ragged floor."
The words kidnap my mind
away from my work
to a much needed sleeping lesson.
My head jerks backwards.
I am thrown back into reality.
My blackened eyes wander across my dishevelled desk
resting on my cellular connection to the world.
I hope desperately for some excuse for procrastination
But the screen remains unforgivingly black
Staring unforgivingly back
At my unforgivingly black eyes.
Still and silent.
My eyes stumble to the clock
"11:12" it scoffs.
Those 4 unholy digits
laugh at me behind their rigid black lines.
Still and silent.
Eleven-twelve.
I only want to
Wish the night away.
But I've just missed my chance.
One minute too late always comes too soon.
My eyes can't see what I'm sensing
So I'll have to settle with wincing.

Six Feet Over
A dead man, to me,
Lies not below the sea;
Not a body in the ground,
But a voice without sound.
A dead man, I say,
Is not the soil's prey,
But an expressionless toy
Of unwarrented joy.
A dead man can be
Something difficult to see.
His thoughts go unknown;
Another faceless clone.
Only can we thrive,
Breathing and alive,
When our mind is free
Not to think
But to see.

Drip
Mind-numbing exasperation
Infuriating irritation
The drip...drip...drip of the day
Drip-drip-dripping away
Leads my conscience astray
Thoughts turn to bitter dismay
Tearing at my aching head
As I sink further into my bed
With all my thoughts left unsaid
Consciousness is such a dread
I'd rather sleep it away instead

11:50
10 minutes to midnight
but i'd rather stay up all night
writing
thinking
listening
watching
because 10 minutes of expression
of thought
of silence
of stillness
is more refreshing than 10 hours of sleep
will ever be

A Migraine
Pounding, pounding, pounding
Dawn church bells sounding
Spinning, spinning, spinning
Without end or beginning
Flashing, flashing, flashing
Deep sea waves crashing
Throbbing, throbbing, throbbing
Dry eyes sobbing
Shaking, shaking, shaking
Dormant storm awaking
Screaming, screaming, screaming
Light slivers beaming
Banging, banging, banging
Thoughts clashing, clanging
Pulsing, pulsing, pulsing
Inflamed mind convulsing

747
It shakes, rattles, and roars
Yet we sit eternally still
They feed us proscription lies
But I refuse to take the pill
The vacuums of these fools' minds
Release a sublimating chill
They think that none of us can see
Over the windowsill
They say we'll never understand
But I know I always will
Searching, looking, trying to find
The light beyond the hill

The Dragon Warrior
Killers dressed in black.
A battle cry split the air,
Signaling the attack.
He examined his surroundings,
And immediately he knew;
Anything that could be done,
He would have to do.
If his foe had advanced this far,
Help would not arrive.
They would already have come,
If they were still alive.
So he called upon the elements
Flowing in his veins.
He demanded that they answer
So the enemy could be slain.
First, he summoned Water,
And called her from the deep.
“I know that you can hear me,” he cried,
“For Water does not sleep.”
Answer me, O Water,
Your powers are what I seek.
I desperately need your help;
Without you I am weak.”
As Water rose to meet him,
She made a thundering roar.
He had never seen her anger
Rumble like this before.
“Why do you disturb me,
The master of the seas,
Do not try to command me.
For I do only as I please.”
“I meant no disrespect,” he replied
“But there are innocent lives at stake.
I ask nothing for myself,
But only for their sake.”
“What ever I do for you,” said Water
“Comes with a cost so very high.
If you hesitate for a moment,
The price is that you die.”
“I am the son of the first warriors,
To walk upon the Earth;
Descendant of the dragons,
Here at mankind’s birth.”
Fear and hesitation,
Are things I do not know;
They vanished from my blood,
Centuries ago.”
Next, he turned to Earth,
And summoned her from below.
“Mother of all life,
I need your help against my foe.”
I must have your assistance,
So I make this request:
Rise and face my enemy,
And help me in this test.”
Earth was quick to answer
The young warrior’s plea,
“What gives you the right
To make demands of me?”
“I am the son of your first dragon;
Her blood is my life’s source.
I am the child of your first man,
In my veins, I carry his force.”
“I will gladly help you, son,
But there is a price to pay,
If I see you falter,
Your life will end this day.”
“I accept this challenge,
Knowing I will win or die.
I will fight this battle ‘til the end,
Or fall from the sky.”
Then, he called to Fire
To help him in his plight.
The warrior commanded her
To stand with him and fight.
“Beware, my brave son,
Hold my warning true,
If I sense your fear,
I must destroy you.”
He scoffed back at Fire,
“My ancestors you disgrace.
I am a full-blooded member
Of a brave and noble race.”
I tell you, like the others,
This battle I will win.
But that is only possible,
With the fire from within.”
Finally, he beckoned Wind,
And the powers in the air,
His voice called for them,
With an ancient prayer.
“All that blows around me,
Come to your child in need.
Help me in this battle;
Complete this honorable deed.”
The answer floated on a breeze
That only he could hear,
“I will stand beside you,
Unless you give in to fear.”
He answered, “I’m the son
Of warriors proud and brave,
And I swear that I fear nothing,
Not even my own grave.”
Water, Earth, Fire, and Wind;
On either side they flew
To meet the mighty attackers,
And deal out what was due.
Water gave him fluid motion,
His enemies she drowned.
Earth swelled up beneath his foes,
And knocked them to the ground.
Fire filled his mighty lungs,
And scorched all that lay below.
Wind blew strong and mighty,
Dealing the final blow.
When the last foe was defeated,
And the dust had settled down,
He gazed upon the battlefield
And his enemies on the ground.
He had proven himself in battle,
And passed his greatest test.
He had bravely faced his enemies,
And succeeded in his quest.
So when you hear the thunder
Roll across the sky,
Do not fear the awesome rumble
Of the Dragon Warrior’s Cry.
